Remember : Your picture is your Sales Pitch!
As people scroll through their feed, a well taken picture with a descriptive caption goes a long way. You don’t need fancy lighting or equipment to do this. Just a few short tips and you will be on your way to fast fashion heaven!
Light It Up
Capture your photo in natural, indirect sunlight. This is a space next to or near a window. Natural lighting works much better than artificial lighting as lighting such as general interior lamps can warp the true colours of the garment or can produce unwanted glares or shadows across the item. If you can’t get a spot with strong natural indirect sunlight then just pop outside and take a snap up against a simple background.
Background means Background
Dressup is all about focusing on the garment for sale and we want to make listing as quick and easy to complete for everyone. We say, don’t worry about being overly creative with your background as buyers want to see clearly what is on offer and the best way to do this is with a simple or neutral background. Think of a model shot that designer’s use when categorising their looks and when organising large walk-in wardrobes. You want to quickly and easily see the item. View Dressup as your virtual wardrobe, effectively list your items, create more space when you sell and then buy some more. Don’t forget to ensure that simple background is clean!
The Body Shot
When you locate your plain background in the correct lighting, next we recommend that for clothing you always capture a photo with the garment on the body. Your item will sell much faster as these pictures will show how the item fits, as clothing can look vastly different on the rail. Take a selfie using a freestanding mirror that you can move to your desired location or you can ask a friend to take a snap. If you like the more creative look, try out some fun poses! Or If you prefer to capture the garment on a hanger, ensure the item is placed neatly and choose a wooden, coloured or textured hanger. Wire hangers = not a fun look!
If you are listing Shoes or Accessories, you can place the item on a simple neutral carpet or even throw down a clean white sheet so that the full effect of the colours and details of the item can be seen clearly in the photograph.
Honesty is the best Policy
Shoot your garment from as many different angles as possible to give the buyer a good idea of the item for sale from every perspective. Be honest about your garment, it will help you build positive reviews. We don’t advocate for selling something in poor condition, but be honest if there’s a flaw. If there is a flaw, ensure you have a clear picture showing it’s detail.
*When loading your photos for the listing, load your listing profile photo first and this will then be the picture visible on your listing as cover photo*
