We at Team Dressup are so excited to help you find some bargains, build your closets and make some well-deserved money. Whether you are an individual, small boutique or custom dressmaker/designer registered to list on Dressup, these ten tips can help you sell quickly and gain repeat customers!
#1 Sell Quality Items
Only list and sell items in your Closet that you would be happy to buy. If the item has multiple stains or excessive wear and tear, don’t sell it. Even if the item is in good condition but is of poor quality material, colour, is uncomfortable or itchy to wear, selling such an item will not bring you much future success. Sell items that was once loved, never worn or that just didn’t suit or fit you.
#2 Take a variety of pictures
Pictures are everything. The pictures you chose to post on your listing will be the first thing to attract your buyers, even before they read your well-worded description or drill down into the listing and comments for more information. It’s best to show everything you possibly can about the item. Show what the item looks like on the body, this will provide a good indication of how it fits. If it is a designer brand, why not take a snap of the authentic labels or markings, or if there is an interesting intricate detail, be sure to take a close up of that also! If there are any small issues with the garment, have a clear and up close picture so that the buyer can decide if they are happy to purchase. With such a combination of images, you will be sure to sell out fast and at a price that you are happy with! Check out our Photography Tutorial for more tips.
#3 Describe your items accurately
We emphasise how important it is to accurately describe your garment. We have made it as easy as possible to list and provide a clear description through our quick dropdown selections and you can also complete the short description to highlight any key selling points of the item for sale, if it’s limited edition or once worn for example. If you would like to add more information for your buyers that you think would help in their final decision to purchase, add in the comments section, such as wether the garment is true to size or how you like to style it. If there is an issue with the item, be clear and transparent. Remember, your buyer will be asked to rate their experience with your Closet so be sure to send them an item as advertised. Answering your potential buyer’s questions upfront will help them to hit that buy button faster, saving you time and money!
#4 Price your items fairly
Simply, price your items fairly. A fair price will consider any wear and tear, age, brand and the cost you would pay for the item if bought brand new. It is up to you whether you will provide free shipping or alternatively add a shipping price for your buyer to pay on checkout. *Please remember to input your shipping price at zero or above for each location you are willing to ship to. Service charges are applied and final proceeds sent to your registered bank account. Check out our Terms and Conditions for more.
#5 Package with care
You can pick up packaging from many supermarkets and office supply stores, offline and online. To save you time and money, you can bulk buy and have all your packaging ready to go, from boxes for shoes and handbags to plastic envelopes for smaller accessories and clothing. As long as the item arrives as you sent it, that is what is most important to your customer, so take care to choose the right packaging for the type of item you are shipping, use bubble wrap or paper where needed. If you want to really impress your customers, why not take a little extra time to add a little pizzazz to your package! Add a hand written thank you note or you could even add a small complimentary gift, from a pretty bar of chocolate or candy to a small accessory.
#6 Pay attention to your processing time - Ship quickly
With your packaging in stock, it will help you speed up your realistic listed processing time (selected when listing). Visible to potential buyers, your processing time is the time you believe it will take you to send the order, from receiving the order notification in app to shipping the item via your selected registered post provider. As soon as you receive the tracking reference, enter and complete the order in app, before the processing time lapses and the funds are returned to the buyer. The buyer can then track the item all the way to delivery. Check out our Shipping Tutorial for more tips.
#7 Interact and Share
Be sure to share, comment and like other listings that grab your attention. Follow closets that you would like to see more of and if you are similar in style they may follow you back! The more you interact with other buyer and sellers, the more interaction you will receive in return. You can share both Dressup and the listings on your messaging and social media platforms. Whether it’s an item you are selling, or a bargain you have found and want to share with your friends. Sharing helps you to build a bigger audience, gain followers and speed up your sale.
#8 Choose the most relevant Category
We have designed the platform to help buyers to search more effectively for the item they desire and with that help the seller to be seen and make a sale fast. When placing your ad, you will be given a list of options for an Occasion and Style category that you believe the item is most suitable. But don’t fret, if you feel your item is not getting the views you believe it deserves you can edit your ad for free and update the category selected where necessary.
#9 Be Responsive
When someone posts a question or comment on your listing, respond promptly. If you wait too long to respond you may lose the interest of a potential buyer!
#10 Keep your closet full and fresh
To keep people coming back to you, be sure to list a range of items to your closet. Keep your followers interested and anticipating your next listing. As soon as you sell, try to list a new item quickly.
Once you get into the swing of things and become consistent you will gain a credible and reliable reputation with a strong following of customers that love your style. You will then feel the freedom, sell, buy, have fun wearing the item and sell again. Use what you have to make money and repeat the cycle without having to add another penny!
